Loved this piece. I had no idea about any of it and I lived in Quebec for five years! The port of Quebec was also, of course, the first landing place for immigrants to Canada, including many of my Scottish family connections.
It's amazing how much the Irish presence in Quebec has been erased by time. On a visit with my mother about ten years ago she noted how much the architecture in St Roch reminded her of some streets in Belfast. I realized then that Quebec City had indeed once been an Irish city.
